Bacognize vs Synapsa bacopa: what is the difference?
Synapsa prints 55% bacosides A and B; Bacognize prints a 150-300 mg dose and no percentage. What the makers' pages and three PubMed abstracts actually say.
The difference between Bacognize and Synapsa bacopa, read from the makers’ own pages, is what each chooses to print. Synapsa (PLT Health Solutions) states “no less than 55% of combined bacosides” A and B. Bacognize (Verdure Sciences) states a 150-300 mg daily dose and “standardized to bacopa glycosides”, with no percentage. Neither page names the assay behind its figure.

What is the difference between Bacognize and Synapsa bacopa on paper?

PLT prints a number and Verdure does not; neither prints how it was arrived at.
Why a bacoside percentage is only comparable when the method is stated
“Bacosides” is not one molecule but a family of saponins, and a label figure depends on two decisions: which members of the family are counted, and which laboratory technique counts them. A method that measures total saponin-like material returns a larger number than one that quantifies a few named compounds individually. Neither figure is wrong; they answer different questions.
A retailer setting 55% against a smaller figure to imply one extract is “stronger” only holds if both numbers came from the same assay counting the same compounds. On the three manufacturer pages this desk read, no assay is named for either extract. The PLT Synapsa page says 55% and stops. The Verdure Bacognize page says “standardized to bacopa glycosides” and stops. The method attributions that circulate for these products rest, in the material we could open, on the copy of the retailer that sells both, Nootropics Depot, whose page describes Synapsa as a 25:1 extract at 55% plus or minus 5%, a ratio PLT’s own page does not print.
What the trials behind each extract actually used

Read the dose column against PLT’s page. PLT describes Stough 2008 as a “90-day study with 107 participants, ages 18-60, consuming 150 mg/day”. The abstract says “2 x 150 mg KeenMind”. We print both and do not resolve it. The 2001 trial’s erratum is why its 300 mg sits next to a footnote.
On outcomes we stay narrow. Stough 2008 reports the product “significantly improved performance on the ‘Working Memory’ factor”. Kumar 2016 is a six-week, randomised, placebo-controlled trial in sixty medical students. That is “studied at this dose, in this population, for this long”, the only form of “clinically studied” this bulletin recognises. PLT also lists Roodenrys 2002 (300 mg a day, 12 weeks, ages 40-65) and Downey 2012 (acute, 320 mg and 640 mg); we know those only from PLT’s page.
Is Synapsa the same as KeenMind?
PLT’s Synapsa page lists Stough 2001 and Stough 2008 as Synapsa studies, and the PubMed abstracts of those two trials call the extract KeenMind. That is the link as the documents state it. The PLT page this desk read does not use the words KeenMind or CDRI, so we describe the lineage through the trial records rather than asserting the two names are interchangeable.
What percentage of bacosides should bacopa have?
There is no single right number, because a bacoside percentage depends on which compounds are counted and which assay counted them. PLT states no less than 55% combined bacosides A and B for Synapsa; Verdure states no percentage for Bacognize. Without the method on the label, a higher figure is not automatically more extract, and the two numbers are not comparable.
Which bacopa extract is best?
This desk does not rank them. Both extracts have at least one placebo-controlled trial in a named population at a stated dose, and both makers print something a generic bacopa label usually does not. The honest comparison is the one in the tables above: what each page discloses, what each trial used, and where the maker’s description and the abstract disagree.
How much bacopa should I take a day?
We do not give dosing advice. What we can print is what the sources say: Verdure’s page states 150-300 mg per day for Bacognize, Kumar 2016 used 150 mg twice daily, and Stough 2008 used 2 x 150 mg KeenMind. Follow the directions on the finished product you actually bought, and read them against these figures rather than against a forum thread.
Where this leaves the label-reader
A branded ingredient is a supply-chain claim, as we said of Cognizin in the Blackmores Cognition Ultra piece and of all seven actives in Profound Focus. Compare these two with the mass-market bacopa we read last week: the Focus Factor 640 mg blend prints neither an extract name nor a bacopa dose. Against that, both are real disclosures with the same hole: the assay. Until one maker prints it, the percentage war between these extracts is being fought on retailer copy, and we would rather you knew that than picked a side.
None of the above is a health claim, and the FDA has not evaluated any of it. These are two ingredients in adult supplements that are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything; the trials we quoted say what their abstracts say and nothing more. Read the panel on the product you buy; if it names an extract, now you know what that name does not tell you.
